TARGETED INTERVENTION

Targeted HIV Interventions

The Targeted Intervention (TI) Project:

This project has been running for 6 years and has implemented HIV prevention for female sex workers in the Malad and Grant Road areas of Mumbai, funded by the Mumbai District AIDS Control Society (MDACS). Another TI is implemented for bar girls in Dombivili, Thane District, which is funded by the Maharashtra State AIDS Control Society (MSACS).

Our community-based organizations (Triveni Samaj Vikas Kendra, GAURAV) also conduct such interventions in their respective areas with the following goals:

  • To increase awareness about HIV transmission, prevention, protection, treatment, and care.
  • To shift high risk behavior patterns through Behavior Change Communication (BCC).

At all our CBOs, the community members employed as Peer Educators help support their fellow sex workers on a daily basis, encouraging them to regularly engage in STI/HIV counseling and testing.

Aastha Parivaar is the lead agency for implementing the FHI-360 Linkages Project for Mumbai, Thane and Pune. Linkages aims to provide technical assistance is provided to the TI NGOs working with female sex workers.
